About Us

S.U.N. GARDEN PROGRAMS

Program Activities Monday thru Friday - 9am to 4pm  Motor City Grounds Crew Campus - 4178 Lakepointe, Detroit MI 

YOUTH SUN GARDENS

The S.U.N Youth Garden program introduces youth to the Gardening/Urban Farm Industry and inspires them to pursue careers working with plants, gardens, bees and nature through career exploration.  This  garden based program  provides a natural opportunity to work across disciplines and across professions By transporting participants beyond the walls of a traditional classroom into onsite experience to gain a firsthand account of the diverse career opportunities within the Horticultural industry. 


SENIOR SUN GARDENS

The S.U.N. Senior Garden program encourages seniors to engage in activities that promote interest in starting a garden while Discovering the helpful  Benefits of adding fresh vegetables & herbs to their diet.  

 The program details:  Senior Citizens (Exposure to Gardening at Home) Each Saturday 10 to 15 seniors will experience hands-on exposure based on the program’s learning goals and targets.

YOUTH SUN GARDENS

S.U.N. GARDENS - Students Understanding Nutrition

Learning Objectives:

  • Youth will explore the broad range of careers options within the Horticultural industry by exploring the basic principles, processes and functions of specific professions  
  • Youth will Work alongside industry professionals to gain hands-on in the field exposure to new career possibilities  
  • Youth will gain positive attitudes towards environmental awareness, respect for nature & natural resources 
  • Students will learn the basics elements of plant growth management and harvest of a variety of plants in diverse environments from farmer    



Students will have supervised, hands-on work experience delivered by industry professionals in theses profession areas:  


  1. Landscaper (mowing, surface cleaning, site beautification) 
  2. Groundskeeper (weeding, mowing, ground surface cleaning, site cleaning) 
  3. Farmer (soil distribution, planting, inventory management, irrigation, trench digging) 
  4. Bee keeper (to be determined)  

SENIOR SUN GARDENS

S.U.N. GARDENS - SENIORS Understanding Nutrition

Learning Objectives:

Overview of Senior Citizens Exposure to Gardening at Home:    

  • Participant Learning Goals covered in this curriculum  
  • Ways Gardening Helps Boost Heart and brain Health &  Lowers Stress
  • Exploring the Best Plants for your Container Gardens 
  • Access to Healing herbs and spices (medicine cabinet in your kitchen)
  • What do I need for my container gardening  Container Gardening tips  


This curriculum will be consistent easy (15) Saturday Sessions that last 3.5 to 4 hours beginning June 11th through September 24th
